Lancaster Day 2

Tour of Amish Farms and a visit to an old Mill and Millhouse ...
Some of these shots have reflections due to shooting them through the mini-bus windows. This is tobacco growing in an Amish property that you can see at the back
This is cut tobacco drying in the same property
A large Amish house and farm
The largest Amish house in the district with at least 3 generations living under the same roof. Most Amish couples have more than 8 children
Two Amish children in front of another Amish house. Note that the young go barefoot especially in Summer
We stopped at this craft shop run by Amish people. You could buy fresh pretzels and root beer. We tried both - the pretzels were OK although not what we expected and the root beer was definitely not to our taste!
Inside the craft store. Note that it is called "Annie's Kitchen"
Across the road from the craft shop this young barefoot Amish girl was riding a scooter (cross between what we know as a scooter and a bicycle). Apparently they are not allowed to ride bicycles because they can go too fast!
Not supposed to take photos of Amish people but I got this one from a distance. (The guy in the blue shirt with the beard)
Whilst this has bad reflections you can see two Amish women, one with her scooter
Young Amish farmer boy
Amish on a horse buggy
Amish father and young daughter in a carriage
The view from the back of our hotel
Again from the back of our hotel but in a different direction
Traditional Amish buggy on Route 340 (the main drag!)
The flour Mill that we visited. was in operation until 1977 when the remaining family members could not continue any longer so they packed two suitcases and left the Mill and Millhouse to a Trust to open them free for visitors! They were complete with all contents just as the owners had left them
We had a demonstration of the water driven Mill by a volunteer guide
Looking out the back of the Mill to the river that provided the water power to the Mill. Tomorrow we leave the Amish Country and head north to Niagara, A six hour drive that will take us just over the border into Canada.
