Washington Day 2

Arlington National Cemetery, Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial, Crime & Punishment Museum and Georgetown ...
A day of 34 degrees (feels like 37 degrees due to humidity) and the hottest for 19 days! This will be a challenge! We set off for the Big Bus to take us to Arlington, Pentagon and Lincoln Memorial ...
Big Bus pickup is opposite this grand building
Pretty sure this was the Treasury Building!
WW II Memorial in the foreground and looking down to the Lincoln Memorial
Front of the Lincoln Memorial on the way to the Arlington National Cemetery
Commercial centre on the other side of the Potomac River
Entering the Arlington National Cemetery
Arlington National Cemetery is massive
And more
Very hard to get the Pentagon into one picture from the top of a moving bus (do you like the car park for the employees!) Apparently there are 17 miles of corridors but it takes only 7 minutes to get from one point in the Pentagon to any other point. Now there is a trivia question!
The commercial shopping centre next to the Pentagon
This the place they print all the US paper money that has no backing!
Yours truly and Anne outside the Lincoln Memorial. Note that I broke out the shorts for the hot weather!
The view from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Memorial and in the far distance is the US Capitol Building
Anne walking up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial (towards bottom right!)
Anne in front of Abraham Lincoln. It is very imnpressive
Unfortunately there was still some scaffolding due to cleaning after some recent vandalism
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
Now a complete change to the Crime & Punishment Museum. This is Anne and Terri in a simulated "line up"
General picture in the Museum
Anne and Terri trying their skills at shooting the "would be criminal" in a simulated crime! They were using "glocks" !
Waiting for the Yellow Line Big Bus to take us to Georgetown - the historic district of Washington DC
The old architecture of Georgetown
More ...
And even more
Georgetown Harbour where children were cooling off in the fountains
Apartment Buildings in Georgetown Harbour
Scott Circle where our hotel is situated over to the right in this shot
Washington Plaza Hotel. We decided that Washington DC was definitely the "City of Traffic Lights". We have never seen so many traffic lights! I also think that it is the "City of Memorials as every building / structure seems to the Memorial to someone! Well tomorrow morning we pick up the rental car and drive (hopefully) to Lancaster!
