York & Durham

Doing the tourist bit in York and Durham ...

Friday, 1st June - Picked up the rental car from Enterprise in Harrogate and, since we were halfway to York, decided to carry on and spend the day in York. This was a nice coffee shop in Knaresborough on the way to York.

We found some markets at York so we just had to look at what was on offer!

Saturday, 2nd June all 5 of us decided to brave the elements and enjoy a beautiful day in Durham with temperature about 10 degrees C with drizzle!
However, we found this great Cafe called Treats which was doing a roaring trade on such a cold wet day!

More exploring Durham between showers ....
Durham Cathedral was magnificent. We just caught the end of a Jubilee thanksgiving service but were able to look around the whole Cathedral for nothing (Anne did give a donation). Compare this with York Cathedral with a GBP 9.00 admission fee for adults!
Durham Cathedral is magnificent inside and out. Building began in 1093 and took 40 years!

We decided to return to Treats to have some lunch. The Cafe was upstairs above the Body Shop - a single door and steep stairs with a steady flow of traffic.

Treats is basically a family run business with fantastic food at very reasonable prices. We had a variety of Bacon, Sausage & Egg Stotties for GBP 2.95 each!
The service and friendliness at Treats is exceptional and we all would thoroughly recommend this place for anyone visiting Durham.
The rain stopped long enough for a few more pictures before leaving Durham. Terri rugged up to the right!
